CXOF — limits and operating conditions

Where CXOF works well and where it breaks.

stubdoc-seoupdated 2026-05-11T00:00:00.000ZClaudeDroneCXOFLimits

CXOF inherits the PMW3901 physical limits — see PMW3901 limits for the full breakdown. Key constraints recap:

  • Minimum altitude: 8 cm (below this, the optical focus is lost).
  • Maximum altitude: ~3-4 m indoor; up to 30 m outdoor with high contrast.
  • Floor contrast critical: plain laminate / glossy floors cause drift.
  • Illumination ≥ 60 lux: dark scenes accumulate noise.

CXOF-specific notes

  • The Holybro module includes a glass lens cover that protects the optics — handle with care; scratches degrade performance.
  • The UART output rate is fixed at the ArduPilot protocol cadence (10 Hz by default); you can’t easily push it higher.
