The TFMini-S is the older sibling of the TF-Luna — same Benewake family, similar UART protocol, smaller range (12 m max, but ~6 m practical indoor), and similar 9-byte frame format. Largely superseded by TF-Luna for our use case; documented here for completeness in case someone has TFMini parts on hand.
The TF-Luna driver pattern transfers directly; the main difference is the frame layout (fields 4-7 differ between TFMini and TF-Luna A03 — see datasheet pitfalls for the gotcha).
