ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) calibration teaches each ESC the min and max PWM signal it will see. Without calibration, four motors may interpret the same throttle as different RPMs — leading to immediate flip on arm (see drone flip on takeoff).
Current status: placeholder. Calibration is a hardware-only step (no SITL analogue); we’ll fill this in during the physical-drone bring-up phase (see H2 2026 roadmap).
Standard procedure (ArduPilot all-at-once)
- Disconnect props.
- Connect battery while holding throttle at max (radio off then on with throttle high).
- Wait for ESC tone, then drop throttle to min, wait for second tone.
- Reboot the flight controller.
- Test motor spin via Mission Planner → Setup → Motor Test at 5-10% throttle.
